The first steps
What to do in the first weeks. Doctor visits where you are the advocate. The paperwork. Medicare and Medicaid in plain words. When to bring in outside help.
For adult children caring for aging parents
One day you are the child. The next you are the one calling the pharmacy, reading the discharge papers and deciding what happens next. The Ember Shift is where that shift gets easier — the paperwork, the conversations you keep putting off, and the grief nobody warned you about.
What you will find here
Everything here falls into one of these. No diagnosis-of-the-week, no miracle routines — just the parts of this that actually come up.
What to do in the first weeks. Doctor visits where you are the advocate. The paperwork. Medicare and Medicaid in plain words. When to bring in outside help.
Driving. Moving. Money. Accepting help. A diagnosis. And the siblings who somehow are not in the room for any of it.
The guilt, the strangeness, the grief of losing the parent you knew while they are still sitting right there.
Burnout, boundaries, working while caregiving, and the small ways of refilling that fit in the ten minutes you actually have.

Who is behind this
I was a caregiver through cancer in my own family, and I am now at the stage where my parents are getting older and the questions are quietly becoming mine. The Ember Shift is the resource I went looking for and could not find.
What I remember most is not the medical part. It is how much of it was administrative, and how much of that had a deadline nobody told me about.
